Welcome to The Citizens Fire Company # 1. We are one of four fire stations in the borough of Tamaqua. Our station is located at 99 W. Rowe street in Tamaquas' downtown district. The station is professionally staffed by a 100% volunteer membership, under the guidelines of The Office of The State Fire Commissioner. Currently we are certified to the bronze level, which means at the very least 50% of our active members are certified to the Firefighter 1 certification level or higher. We serve as the primary fire protection for the borough along with the department's three other stations.
The borough is a residental community spanning 11 square miles with a popluation of 7,500. Our first due area also includes two state routes that intersect Rt 209 and Rt 309, a college, shopping centers, resturants, and industrial sites. Our department provides automatic aid to all surrounding communities, such as West Penn, Walker, Rush, and Schuylkill Townships as well as Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill Boroughs.
As a whole the Tamaqua Fire Department has an ISO rating of 4. The Fire Department operates (5) Pumpers, (1) 100' Ladder, (2) Brush Units, (4) Squad/Utilities, and (1) Fire Police Van. All under the direction of Tamaqua Fire Chief Tom Schorlf (771) and his three assistants Tom Hartz Jr.(772), James Connely (773) and Mark Boyle (774).
